Josep Borrell reaffirms the “great value” the European Union attaches to the strategic partnership with Morocco

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, reiterated the “great value” that the European Union attaches to the strategic partnership with Morocco.

Mr. Borrell said, in a press conference during which he presented the conclusions of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council, held in Luxembourg, that “the 27 member states wish to strengthen the partnership between Morocco and the European Union, which is a broad, long-term, dense and deep partnership.”

“We have established friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with Morocco, and we hope to continue to maintain and strengthen them in the coming months,” he added, noting that the EU foreign ministers took note of the rulings issued by the European Court of Justice on the EU-Morocco fisheries and agriculture agreements.

In this context, the Head of European Union Diplomacy reiterated the content of the joint statement he issued with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, through which the European Union's commitment to further maintain and strengthen its close relations with Morocco in all areas was reaffirmed, in line with the principle of "pacta sunt servanda".

He concluded by saying: “In close cooperation with Morocco, the European Union looks forward to strengthening these relations and maintaining this partnership in all areas.”
