Israeli soldier killed in ramming attack near Ramallah
An Israeli soldier was killed after being critically injured in a ramming attack carried out on Wednesday at the Givat Asaf Junction near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, while a Palestinian truck driver was shot, allegedly for carrying out the ramming attack.
According to Israeli media, the perpetrator of the ramming attack at the Givat Asaf Junction is Hael Issa Abdul Jabbar Daif Allah (58 years old), a resident of Rafat, who was injured and taken to a hospital.
The Israeli army spokesman announced in a statement that "a ramming attack took place near the Givat Asaf Junction near Ramallah, and the perpetrator was neutralized," and the army later announced in a brief statement the death of a soldier who "fell during operational activity" in the West Bank.
Israeli media reported that two soldiers were injured, one of them critically, in the run-over attack near Ramallah. Israeli Channel 14 reported that the soldier injured in the run-over attack is in critical condition and efforts are being made to revive him.
The newspaper "Israel Hayom" reported that it was suspected that the truck used in the ramming operation was booby-trapped, noting that it was a gas transport truck, and explosives experts were called to the site.
Following the operation, the occupation army mobilized its forces to the area, imposed strict measures around the run-over operation, and closed the Beit El checkpoint in both directions to traffic.
