International newspapers: Netanyahu is not interested in the return of prisoners and Washington is complicit in the killing of Palestinians

International newspapers said that reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip seems out of reach in light of the intransigence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, noting that the latter's insistence on remaining in the Philadelphi corridor means that he is not interested in the return of the detainees.

In the British newspaper, the Financial Times, a report said that Netanyahu's stubborn position makes reaching a ceasefire agreement a distant possibility, noting that Israeli security officials "secretly accuse the prime minister of aborting any possible agreement, especially at crucial moments when progress was clear, in an attempt to ensure his political survival."

The Washington Post also quoted former Israeli Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh as saying that the continued insistence on maintaining a military presence in the Philadelphi corridor "confirms that Benjamin Netanyahu is not interested in returning the detainees to their homes." Sneh added that there is no other explanation for this matter.

In Israel, Haaretz quoted a senior American official as saying that the United States is capable of making security arrangements that fully take into account Israel's needs if it withdraws from Philadelphia.

The official added that statements by some Israeli ministers that the proposed deal would sacrifice Israel's security were "not true." The official said that failure to conclude the deal "represents a threat to Israel's long-term security."

On The Hill, an article by Josh Rubner noted that Israel "is deepening its horrific violence against the Palestinians, which is more deadly than the catastrophe of 1948 (referring to the Nakba)."
In The Guardian, Azriel Bermant wrote an article in which he said that Britain's arms embargo on Israel "was partial and symbolic," adding, "The Labour government should impose sanctions on the two dangerous extremist ministers in the Israeli government, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, for preventing an agreement."
He said this "would send a message to the wider Israeli public that the British government stands with them, and that its patience with the reckless Netanyahu government has run out."
Finally, the Wall Street Journal published a report indicating that religious Jews in Israel (Haredim) are at a crossroads, with the arrival of military conscription orders against them.
