Hamas: We affirm our commitment to Biden's offer and the Security Council's decision to stop the war
Hamas confirmed, on Thursday, its adherence to what US President Joe Biden announced at the end of last May, and the Security Council resolution, which the movement approved on July 2, and that it does not need any new proposals.
This was reported by Hamas Political Bureau member Khalil Al-Hayya, in a recorded video clip published by the movement on the Telegram platform.
Al-Hayya said: “We affirm our adherence to what was agreed upon after President Biden’s announcement at the end of May, and Security Council Resolution No. 2735, which the movement approved on July 2.”
He added: "We stress that any agreement must include a comprehensive cessation of aggression against the Palestinian people, a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, including the Philadelphi Corridor, the freedom of return of the displaced, relief for our people, and reconstruction of what the occupation has destroyed, leading to the conclusion of a serious and real deal to exchange prisoners."
He continued: "We do not need new papers, and any proposals, from any party, must primarily seek to oblige Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his fascist government to implement what was agreed upon, not to return to square one, nor to spin in the same vicious circle that Netanyahu wants."
He pointed out that "the world has reached a clear conviction about the reasons for the disruption of the negotiations (referring to Netanyahu), and who is the party obstructing the agreement, and who is constantly fabricating arguments and excuses to thwart efforts to reach an agreement."
Al-Hayya explained that "Biden's position on Netanyahu, although timid and late, clearly diagnoses the issue and points to the responsibility of the fascist Zionist extremist government for the stumbling of this path."
He added: "It has become clear that Netanyahu and his fascist government are the main and only obstructors of the prisoner exchange negotiations, and that the policy of military escalation to release prisoners by force has proven its failure, and has led and is leading to more prisoners losing their lives at the hands of their army."
He stressed that "if the US administration and its President Biden really want to reach a ceasefire and complete a prisoner exchange deal, they must abandon their blind bias towards the Israeli occupation, exert real pressure on Netanyahu and his government, and oblige them to what was previously agreed upon."
He added: "What is required is not to present new formulas and papers, nor to beat around the bush, nor to return to square one. Rather, what is required is to build on all the efforts that have been made, implement what has been agreed upon, and implement what was stated in Biden's speech and the Security Council resolution, which the movement approved on July 2."
Al-Hayya also warned against falling into "the trap set by Netanyahu or being drawn into his new tricks, conditions and demands, which aim to prolong the war and evade the obligation to reach an agreement."
He pointed out that "Netanyahu's foolishness and his continued evasion and avoidance of reaching an agreement led to the killing of more of his prisoners in the Gaza Strip."
Al-Hayya announced that Hamas "has begun communicating with mediators and several regional and international countries, to clarify the movement's position and the status of the negotiations process and the intransigence, evasion and obstruction it faces from Netanyahu and the terrorist occupation government."
He added: "We will not allow the passage of any agreement that detracts from his right to stop this barbaric aggression, or gives legitimacy to any Israeli presence in any part of the Gaza Strip, or places restrictions on the return of the displaced to their homes or relief and reconstruction, in order to achieve a serious exchange deal."
With the mediation of Egypt and Qatar and the support of the United States, Israel and Hamas have been conducting indirect, faltering negotiations for months to reach an agreement for a prisoner exchange and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The Philadelphi Corridor is considered one of the most prominent points of current disagreement, as Netanyahu insists on the Israeli army remaining there, while Hamas insists on its complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
On Monday, Netanyahu claimed that achieving the goals of the war in Gaza "passes through the Philadelphi corridor," and stressed that the army will not withdraw from it "at all."
For months, security officials, the Israeli opposition and prisoners' families have accused Netanyahu of obstructing a deal with Hamas for fear of collapsing his ruling coalition and losing his position.
Far-right ministers, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, are threatening to withdraw from the government and bring it down if it accepts an agreement to end the war.
