Israeli army sees West Bank as 'second battlefield'
The Hebrew newspaper Israel Hayom reported on Tuesday morning that the Israeli army has begun to define the West Bank as a second battlefield after Gaza.
According to the newspaper, the current operations in the northern West Bank are not the end of the story and are expected to expand to other areas on a wider scale.
The newspaper said: In just 48 hours, the West Bank has turned from a time bomb into a bomb about to explode.
She pointed out that the current operation in the northern West Bank is the longest operation of the Israeli army since Operation Defensive Shield, as two combat teams are operating in the Jenin refugee camp and Tulkarm, and this operation is expected to continue in the near future.
According to the newspaper, the recent attacks, especially the double attack in Hebron and the attack in Tarqumiya, prove that there is a need for a major radical treatment in the entire West Bank.
She believed that the security apparatus' dilemma is primarily related to the Hebron area, from which the two major attacks occurred in recent days. She pointed out that an operation in Hebron means an expansion of the deterioration of the situation in the entire West Bank, which is something the Israeli army does not currently want.
She explained that the Israeli army will operate in Hebron and other areas of the West Bank based on intelligence information only.
