Yedioth Ahronoth exposes Netanyahu's lies

This morning, Tuesday, the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth refuted the lies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his press conference yesterday.

“They ask why we didn’t occupy Gaza,” Netanyahu said during his conference. “There was no international or national legitimacy to enter and occupy Gaza and take over Rafah.” But in his book, published two years ago, he himself wrote that he did not support it: “Bennett supported a large-scale ground invasion to conquer Gaza, and I had no intention of doing so, especially when my attention was focused on the Iranian nuclear issue, which threatens our very existence. I believe that the cost in lives and resources does not justify such an action.”

The newspaper added: He also said, "I am not talking about the importance of the Philadelphi Corridor now. I said that twenty years ago when Sharon announced the disengagement," but in the vast majority of the years since then, nearly 14 years, Netanyahu himself has been prime minister, and in the vote on the disengagement he voted in favor of it.

In his long speech about the Philadelphi corridor, Netanyahu did not mention that according to security officials, it would be impossible to dig new tunnels within 42 days of the withdrawal (the first stage of the deal). The reference to the Philadelphi corridor as an oxygen pipeline is also an inaccurate accusation, because the truth is that a large part of the oxygen came from dollar bags from Qatar, with Netanyahu’s approval, and the tunnels were, and perhaps still are, under the corridor. As for the soldiers, according to Netanyahu’s approach, they will be stationed in positions above ground, which means that they will be exposed to harm.

At the press conference, Netanyahu confirmed that he had agreed to the May outline, as well as to the US mediation proposal in August, but in fact he had bypassed the “blood document” issued on July 27, which was revealed yesterday and included the changes demanded by Netanyahu, which in effect torpedoed any possibility of reaching an agreement.

The newspaper said: US President Joe Biden was asked today whether Netanyahu was doing enough to reach a hostage deal, and he answered in front of the cameras with one word: “No.” Netanyahu, who was asked about this, said that he “does not know what he said, and does not believe that he really said it.” According to Netanyahu, “The Americans say that our offer is generous and that Hamas rejects it. The only thing that has changed since then is that they executed our hostages.” But Biden was asked about Netanyahu’s words after his speech, and he said: “We continue to negotiate the final offer for the deal. Not with Netanyahu, but with my counterpart in Egypt and Qatar.”

Not only did the White House deny that they in Washington were frustrated by Netanyahu's behavior, which was stunned by the American position, but American officials said so openly, and made it clear that presenting the decision on the Philadelphi Corridor to the cabinet would only make it more difficult to reach an agreement, the newspaper said.

She added: What is the absolute victory? According to Netanyahu's statement at the press conference, Hamas will not control Gaza again, but he did not mention the return of the kidnapped soldiers as an "absolute victory."

“Netanyahu repeatedly says that there must be a ‘comprehensive investigation into what happened’ on October 7, but 11 months later, no one knows when, or if, a commission of inquiry will be formed at all,” she added. “So in effect, he is delaying its establishment. In any case, it has already been reported that he does not want a government commission of inquiry because he fears that the chief justice will be the one to form it.”

In his speech, Netanyahu attacked the military censorship, saying: "The leaks from the cabinet are a scandal, and it is wrong that there is no law to detect lies. This does not happen in any democratic country in the world." But in democratic countries, the prime minister appears before the media and answers questions not every two or three months, but sometimes once a week, the newspaper says.
