UNRWA: There is no safe place in Gaza and its residents are waiting for death
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Wednesday that there is no longer a safe place in the Gaza Strip, in light of the ongoing Israeli war, considering that the Palestinians of the Strip "seem as if they are waiting for death."
“There is no safe place in Gaza right now. It feels like people are waiting to die,” UNRWA spokeswoman Louise Waterridge said via X.
"The areas that were inside what Israel calls the humanitarian zone are now a front line," Waterridge added, noting that Gazans are now "a few blocks from the front line."
For its part, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in its latest update that "ongoing hostilities and repeated evacuation orders in Gaza continued to constrain relief operations that were already facing access restrictions, fuel shortages and other challenges."
OCHA reported that parts of Salah al-Din Road, a vital corridor for humanitarian missions from the south to the north of the Strip, were included in an evacuation order issued by the Israeli occupation authorities last Saturday to residents of the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.
"This made it almost impossible for aid workers to move along this main road," he noted.
The Israeli occupation army issued new evacuation orders for neighborhoods in central Deir al-Balah this morning, Wednesday.
The OCHA office considered that the coastal road in Gaza is "not a viable alternative" in terms of delivering aid, explaining that the beaches along this road are "crowded with temporary shelters" for Palestinians who have been displaced from their homes.
