Ben Gvir demands dismissal of Attorney General for recommending investigation into singer who called for wiping out Gaza

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called on Monday for Attorney General Amit Eisman to be removed from his post after he recommended investigating a singer who called for the "wiping out" of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said on Monday: "State Attorney General Amit Eisman recommended to the government's legal advisor Gali Baharav-Miara to open a criminal investigation into singer Eyal Golan on suspicion of incitement to violence against the residents of Gaza."

She added: "Days after the October 7 (2023) attack, Golan called for the erasure of the Gaza genocide, saying: Do not leave a single person there."

According to the authority, "the decision to open an investigation against Golan depends on the position of the government's legal advisor."

Commenting on this development, Golan simply said: "The people of Israel are alive," according to the organization.

But Ben-Gvir, leader of the far-right Jewish Power party, called on Monday via the X platform for Attorney General Eisman to be removed from his post.

"Instead of investing his efforts in the Israeli war effort, Eisman is investing his efforts in Sinwar's war effort," he said, referring to Hamas's political bureau chief Yahya Sinwar.

Ben-Gvir called on both the Minister of Justice and the Prime Minister to "submit a decision to the next cabinet session to dismiss him (Eisman) from his position immediately."

In early July, Eisman recommended opening a similar investigation against Ben-Gvir on suspicion of incitement against Palestinian citizens of Gaza, a step that also depends on the position of the government's legal advisor.

Last March, Ben-Gvir defended an Israeli policeman who killed a Palestinian child in the Shuafat camp in occupied East Jerusalem, saying that he "should receive a reward."

According to observers, Eisman's efforts aim to circumvent efforts to prosecute Israel before the International Court of Justice and to prosecute Israeli leaders before the International Criminal Court.

The International Court of Justice, based in The Hague, Netherlands, is considering a lawsuit filed by South Africa and supported by several countries to investigate Israel's alleged commission of "genocide" against Palestinians in Gaza.

Last May, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (also in The Hague), Karim Khan, requested the issuance of arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, for their responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
