UNRWA: 4 out of 5 schools in Gaza were bombed

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, announced today, Wednesday, that 4 out of 5 school buildings in the Gaza Strip were directly bombed or damaged and need to be repaired or rebuilt for use again.

Lazzarini explained in a statement on the "X" platform that 625,000 children in Gaza, including 300,000 UNRWA students, lost an entire school year due to the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

He added that the longer children remain out of school, the more difficult it will be to compensate for educational losses, exacerbating the educational crisis in Gaza.

Students in the Gaza Strip lost the 2023-2024 academic year due to the devastating war waged by Israel since October 7.

According to a statement issued by the government media office in Gaza, the Israeli army completely destroyed more than 120 schools and universities, while 332 educational institutions were partially destroyed.

Lazzarini had previously indicated that the continuation of the Israeli war on the Strip means the destruction of the entire society, and called for an immediate ceasefire.
