Haaretz: Netanyahu prefers continuing the war in Gaza
The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz said on Friday that after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Hamas movement, it has become increasingly clear that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has his own set of priorities.
According to the Hebrew newspaper, the return of the Israeli prisoners in Gaza is not a central and pivotal issue for him.
The newspaper said that the chances of completing the hostage deal, despite the declared support of the security elite, seem slim in light of the changing regional agenda.
According to the newspaper, Netanyahu is interested in continuing the war in the Gaza Strip, without changing the distribution of forces there, and refuses to withdraw from the Philadelphi and Netzarim axes.
The newspaper believed that the conflict with Hezbollah, for Netanyahu, remains a secondary priority, and he does not want to get involved in a regional war and thus avoid entering into an increasing conflict with the party.
She pointed out that Netanyahu does not appear in the media and does not answer journalists' questions except when there are achievements, while at a time when there is any failure, the Israeli army is left to go out to the media and justify that failure.
She said: The achievements made this week through assassinations will not erase the great failure of October 7th.
