Experts: The death of the child Hind Rajab in Gaza may be a “war crime”
UN experts said that the killing of the child Hind Rajab in the Gaza Strip, whose calls for help sparked sympathy around the world, could constitute a “war crime.” The experts said in a statement that "the killing of five-year-old Hind Rajab, her family, and two paramedics could constitute a war crime," adding that Israel's assertion that none of its soldiers were near the site was "unacceptable."
The experts stated that "the absence of a proper investigation and identification of those responsible" five months after the incident "is extremely disturbing and could in itself constitute a violation of the right to life."
For its part, the Israeli embassy in Geneva said in a statement that the investigation into this incident is now in the hands of an independent body within the army.
However, the experts considered that “the absence of a proper investigation and identification of those responsible” five months after the incident “is extremely disturbing and could in itself constitute a violation of the right to life.”
The UN experts noted that a recent analysis of “the crime scene provides compelling evidence” that the location of the family’s car was “in the field of view of an Israeli tank and how it was hit from close range using a type of weapon that can only be attributed to Israeli forces.”
Two Palestinian Red Crescent Society rescuers were martyred in the aforementioned incident.
The experts added, "Audio recordings of calls between Hind and emergency services indicate that she was the only survivor in the car before she was also killed."
"The brutality of these killings shows how much the army has forgotten about restraint in its campaign in Gaza. All cases of extrajudicial executions must be investigated," they added.
