Spokesman for Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza: The number of casualties exceeds our capabilities
The spokesman for Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, Dr. Khalil Al-Dakran, said that the series of Israeli massacres against civilians continues as part of the genocide in the Gaza Strip.
He pointed out that the hospital received dozens of dead and wounded, most of them women, children and the elderly, as a result of the Israeli massacre that targeted a school housing displaced people in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip.
He added that the occupation committed another massacre on Al-Attar Street, Khan Yunis, in the south of the Gaza Strip, which has so far claimed 17 dead and more than 26 injuries.
He stressed that Gaza Strip hospitals lack medicines, medical supplies and fuel, especially in light of the occupation tightening its control over the crossings and preventing the entry of aid into the Strip.
Al-Dakran added that Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital is the only one capable of absorbing the victims in the center of the Gaza Strip, and it provides services to about one million people in the Central Governorate.
He said: “The hospital is facing difficulty in dealing with these large numbers of injuries,” noting that first aid was provided to the injured on the floor of the reception department because there were no places or beds.
He pointed out that the number of infected and sick people is four times greater than the number of beds, so new cases are being placed in corridors, roads and outdoor squares.
Al-Dakran stressed that medical teams work around the clock every day under difficult and bad conditions, and spare no effort to provide assistance, but it is not sufficient to deal with these large numbers of sick and wounded people.
He added: “Medical teams are exhausted due to the number of wounded and patients arriving at hospitals in light of the occupation’s targeting of all medical personnel. More than 500 health sector workers were killed and more than 1,500 others were injured, in addition to the arrest of more than 310, and even ambulances are being targeted.”
He pointed out that most of the injuries arrive at the hospital with complete burns to the body, and some of them arrive with “melted” bodies, which indicates the use of internationally prohibited weapons.
He stressed that there is no burn unit at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, continuing: “Unfortunately, the patient stays for 72 hours and then dies, and there are no ointments or antibiotics to deal with such injuries.”
