The United States imposes new sanctions on settlers and settlement outposts

Today, Thursday, the United States imposed new sanctions on extremist settlers accused of committing violence against Palestinians, which also included financial restrictions on four settlement outposts in the West Bank.

The US State Department also included the "Lehava" organization on its blacklist, describing it as "the largest violent extremist organization in Israel" with more than 10,000 members.

The US State Department said in a statement, “The United States has consistently opposed measures that undermine stability in the West Bank and the prospects for peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians alike. Today, we are imposing sanctions on three Israeli individuals and five entities linked to acts of violence against (Palestinian) civilians in the West Bank.” Western".

She added, "One of the targets of today's sanctions measures is the Lehava organization led by Ben Zion Gopstein, who is on its blacklist and has engaged in acts of violent extremism. Lehava members have engaged in repeated acts of violence against Palestinians, often targeting sensitive or troubled areas."

She continued: “In addition, we are imposing sanctions on four settlement outposts owned or controlled by individuals on our blacklist who have used them as a base to carry out violent acts with the aim of displacing Palestinians. Such settlement outposts have been used to disrupt lands used as pastures, and to limit access to water wells, and launching violent attacks against Palestinians.”

The statement added: “The United States remains deeply concerned about acts of extremist violence and instability in the West Bank. We strongly encourage the Israeli government to take immediate steps to hold these individuals and entities accountable. In the absence of such steps, we will continue to impose our own accountability measures.” ".

During the last four months, the United States, the European Union, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and New Zealand imposed sanctions on settlers and colonial entities in the occupied West Bank, in light of the escalation of terrorist attacks carried out by settlers on citizens, their homes, and their property.

Despite the importance of these sanctions, they did not curb or deter the settlers, who exchange roles with the Israeli occupation forces in attacking defenseless citizens. The extreme right-wing occupation government also provides cover for the settlers to continue their terrorism by arming them, providing them with protection, expanding settlements, and legitimizing settlement outposts in the West Bank, without any regard for UN resolutions and international laws that confirm that the settlements are illegal and undermine the chances of peace and the two-state solution.
