Gallant demands an investigation that includes him, Netanyahu and Halevy regarding the October 7 attack
On Thursday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant called for an investigation that would include him, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy, as a result of the failure during an attack by Palestinian fighters on settlements adjacent to the Gaza Strip on October 7.
This came during his participation in the graduation of a military course for officers, according to the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
“There is a need for an official commission of inquiry to investigate all of us, including me and the prime minister,” Gallant said.
He added, amid applause from the audience: “We need an investigation at the national level that clarifies the facts... a government investigation committee.”
He also demanded that "the investigation committee be objective, and it must investigate all of us: the government, the army, and the security services. It must investigate me, and it must investigate the prime minister and the chief of staff."
There was no immediate comment from Netanyahu's or Halevy's office regarding Gallant's invitation to investigate them until 18:30 (UTG).
Earlier Thursday, the Israeli army acknowledged, in an official report, its failure to protect the Be'eri settlement adjacent to the Gaza Strip, during the surprise attack launched by Palestinian fighters.
