The head of the Mossad traveled to Qatar on Wednesday to discuss a prisoner exchange deal

The head of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad, David Barnea, will head to the Qatari capital, Doha, the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, to continue discussing a prisoner exchange deal and a ceasefire in Gaza.

This comes amid anticipation that a four-way meeting between the Americans, Israel, Egypt and Qatar will be held on Wednesday in Doha, in light of leaks about a positive atmosphere in Israel regarding the possibility of achieving this.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said on Monday: “Mossad Chief David Barnea will head to Doha tomorrow, Wednesday, where he will meet with the Qatari Prime Minister (Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani), the head of the American Central Intelligence Agency (William Burns), and the head of Egyptian intelligence (Abbas Kamel).” ".

Last Friday, Barnea visited Doha to lay the foundations for the resumption of indirect negotiations with Hamas, mediated by Egypt and Qatar, to reach an agreement to exchange Israeli prisoners for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons and a ceasefire in Gaza.

In the same context, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported on Monday morning that the head of the Shin Bet Security Service, Ronen Bar, had arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, at the head of a delegation “to participate in the negotiations hosted by Cairo this week with the participation of American delegations to discuss the outstanding points in the potential ceasefire agreement.” in Gaza".

According to the Commission: “Sources in Israel (which it did not name) confirmed that the negotiations are at the beginning, and that they may continue for some time until conditions become conducive to concluding a deal.”

Earlier Monday, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid pledged to give Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "safety net" if he concluded a deal with Hamas, following which National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich carried out their threat to resign from the government.

In the past two days, Israeli media reported from unnamed Israeli sources that the negotiations could take a month.

Over the course of months, and in the face of Israeli intransigence with American cover, mediation efforts did not succeed in reaching an agreement, as they were hampered by Netanyahu’s refusal to respond to Hamas’ demands to stop the war completely.
