Hamas: No progress in ceasefire talks in Gaza

Hamas leader Osama Hamdan said on Saturday that there is no real new development in the negotiations to stop the aggression against the Gaza Strip that has been continuing for the ninth month in a row.

Hamdan added, in a press conference held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut: “There is nothing real new in the negotiations to stop the aggression against the Gaza Strip, and what is being reported from the American administration comes in the context of exerting various pressures on the movement until it agrees to the Israeli paper as it is, without modification, and in an attempt to beautify the administration’s ugly image.” ".

He added: "We are ready to deal positively with any formula that basically guarantees a permanent ceasefire, withdrawal from Gaza, and a real prisoner exchange deal."

Hamdan continued: "The real position of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government is still characterized by evasion and evasion of the agreement's entitlement. They still refuse to acknowledge a permanent ceasefire, nor a complete withdrawal from Gaza."

He pointed out that Hamas “is following with regret the position of the American administration, which insists on holding the movement responsible for obstructing reaching an agreement, despite Hamas’ welcoming of what was stated in President Joe Biden’s speech: the emphasis on a permanent ceasefire, comprehensive withdrawal, reconstruction, exchange, and Despite Hamas also welcoming the Security Council resolution.”

Regarding the living conditions in the Gaza Strip, Hamdan said, in the same press conference: “The situation in Gaza has become tragic and threatens the rise of thousands of martyrs due to hunger and the lack of necessities of life, as Israel prevents the entry of aid.”

He considered that "the starvation policy is one of the most brutal methods of war used by the (Israeli) occupation that targets civilians and is considered a war crime under international humanitarian law."

He continued: "The occupation obstructs the delivery of aid to the residents of Gaza by imposing a military siege, which constitutes collective punishment."

He pointed out that "the floating port that the American administration established on the coast of Gaza was nothing but propaganda and a political show to save the face of this American administration that is a partner with the occupation in killing, besieging and starving our people."

He explained, "The port did not solve the problem of lack of food supplies. Rather, levels of famine rose even more with its presence."

Hamdan held the American administration “directly responsible, politically, morally, and humanitarianly, for the tragic humanitarian conditions of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and for the state of dangerous famine that has spread throughout the entire Strip.”

The Hamas leader called on the international community, institutions and organizations to "pressure the Zionist occupation to open all crossings with the Gaza Strip."

He stressed the necessity of "expediting the opening of the Rafah crossing, and obliging the occupation to withdraw immediately from it, as this crossing was and will remain purely Palestinian-Egyptian, and the occupation will not have any military, security, or other authority over it."

Israel continues its war on Gaza, ignoring the UN Security Council resolutions to stop it immediately, and the orders of the International Court of Justice to end the Rafah invasion, take measures to prevent acts of genocide, and improve the dire humanitarian situation in the Strip.

Israel is also challenging the request of International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan to issue arrest warrants against its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and its Defense Minister, Yoav Galant. For their responsibility for “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” in Gaza.
