A statement by Galant about the war with Lebanon raises disagreements in the cabinet
On Friday, Hebrew media revealed differences of opinion that occurred during the Israeli Cabinet meeting for security and political affairs, against the backdrop of statements by Defense Minister Yoav Galant about the war with Lebanon.
Gallant said during the cabinet meeting on Thursday evening that he told American officials during his recent visit to Washington, which he concluded on Wednesday, that Israel does not want a war in Lebanon, and that it accepts an agreement that keeps Hezbollah away from the border, according to the Ynet news site. Private Israeli.
The website pointed out that the far-right Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, expressed his rejection of Gallant's statements.
Ben Gvir claimed, during the cabinet meeting, that security for Israel in the north cannot be achieved without war.
He denounced: “Have we not learned a lesson from 20 years of agreements (with Lebanon)? We will conclude an agreement, and then within a year or two they will rape our wives and kill our children,” he claimed.
Then Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, who is close to Netanyahu, intervened, saying: “But even if we win the war, we will conclude an agreement (with Lebanon). Don’t you think so, His Excellency Minister Ben Gvir?”
Ben Gvir replied to him: “We will win (the war on Lebanon), and after that there will be no one to reach an agreement with, and this is a good thing,” referring to the elimination of “Hezbollah.”
For his part, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “If the population returns to the north, an agreement can be reached” with Lebanon.
The website did not clarify the conclusions of the discussion in this regard at the “cabinet” meeting.
