UNRWA: 625 thousand Palestinins in Gaza are deprived of education, medicine and food
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that more than 625,000 children in the Gaza Strip have been out of school for more than eight months, including 300,000 students who were enrolled in UNRWA schools before the war.
The UN agency added, in a post on its account on the
UNRWA confirmed that "waste and sewage are still accumulating throughout the Gaza Strip, while high temperatures and a lack of clean water contribute to accelerating the spread of diseases."
"The stench in Gaza is enough to make you feel sick immediately," said UNRWA Planning Director Sam Rose.
Food insecurity
In a related context, UN Women warned that at least 557,000 women in the Gaza Strip suffer from severe food insecurity.
The UN body said in a statement, “The situation in Gaza is of particular concern to mothers and adult women, who often prioritize feeding others at the expense of themselves, and face greater difficulty in obtaining food compared to men, which prompts many of them to give up meals.” Or reduce their food ration in order to feed their children,” according to the same statement.
The statement added, "Food insecurity and malnutrition are widespread in Gaza, especially among women and children."
The latest IPC report stated that “the risk of famine remains across the Gaza Strip as long as the conflict continues and humanitarian access remains restricted.”
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza that left more than 124,000 Palestinians martyred and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of dozens of children.
Israel continues its war on Gaza, ignoring the UN Security Council resolutions to stop it “immediately,” and the orders of the International Court of Justice to end the invasion of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, and to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
