UNRWA: More than 76 percent of Gaza’s schools need reconstruction and rehabilitation
- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Friday that more than 76 percent of schools in the Gaza Strip need “major reconstruction or rehabilitation” to be able to operate again.
- “Despite this, UNRWA teams continue to reach children through play and learning activities,” the agency explained.
- She stressed that “education is a basic human right,” calling for an “immediate ceasefire” in the Strip, which has been witnessing a devastating Israeli war for about 9 months.
- The "Education Group" is a joint coordination mechanism between organizations working in the field of humanitarian response in the education sector in cases of internal displacement.
- The group was established in 2007 by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee and is led by UNICEF and Child Protection at the global level.
