Egyptian source: Hamas informed us that it is seriously and positively studying the truce proposal

A high-ranking Egyptian source announced on Thursday that the leaders of the Hamas movement informed his country that it is seriously and positively studying the truce proposal in Gaza, indicating that the movement will submit its response in the coming days.

According to Cairo News Channel, the Hamas movement criticized what it said was a “contradiction” between US President Joe Biden’s proposal and Israel’s demands, regarding the ceasefire talks in the Gaza Strip.

The movement's leader, Sami Abu Zuhri, said on Thursday that Hamas "welcomed what was stated by Biden regarding stopping the aggression and Israeli withdrawal."

However, he added in his interview with Reuters news agency: “The card on which the American project depends, which is the Israeli card, does not contain any indication of stopping the aggression or withdrawing.”

Abu Zuhri continued: “The Israeli proposal talks about open negotiations without a ceiling, and about a stage in which the occupation regains its prisoners and then continues the war. The mediators have told us that this paper is unacceptable.”

He stressed that "Hamas is committed to its proposal that it presented on May 5, which is based on stopping the fighting, Israeli withdrawal, a hostage exchange agreement for Palestinian prisoners, and lifting the siege on the Gaza Strip."
