South Africa: We want to apply the Genocide Convention to Tel Aviv

South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor confirmed that her country intends to apply the Genocide Convention to Tel Aviv. In a parallel context, she confirmed moving forward with the case filed against the Israeli occupation entity before the International Court of Justice.

She indicated that Blaha seeks to activate the United Nations Committee against Apartheid to investigate the behavior of the occupation in the Palestinian territories.

In the same context, the International Criminal Court acted based on a complaint from Mexico and Chile in conjunction with parallel complaints received by the International Court of Justice - which has jurisdiction to hold countries accountable for war crimes - from South Africa, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Comoros, Djibouti, the Czech Republic and Bolivia.

South Africa submitted a request to impose urgent measures on the occupying entity, demanding the withdrawal of its forces from Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

South Africa also asked the court to issue an order allowing humanitarian organizations and journalists to enter Gaza without hindrance, noting that the occupation had ignored previous orders from the court.

She added that Tel Aviv has so far been ignoring and violating the orders previously issued by the court.
