Israeli Defense Minister orders Al Jazeera to stop broadcasting in the West Bank

Israeli Army Radio said that Defense Minister Yoav Galant instructed Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy to prevent Al Jazeera from broadcasting in the West Bank, and indicated that work is underway to implement the instructions.

Benjamin Netanyahu's government closed Al Jazeera's office in Israel on May 5, seized equipment used by the channel to broadcast content, and restricted access to its websites.

In a statement, Al Jazeera Network described the Israeli government's decision to close Al Jazeera's offices in Israel as a step that is deeply misleading and slanderous, stressing its right to continue providing its services to the public around the world, which is guaranteed by international conventions.

Al Jazeera Network's statement added that it is ironic that the occupation government closed Al Jazeera's offices in conjunction with World Press Freedom Day.

The statement said, "Israel's suppression of the free press to cover up its crimes by killing and arresting journalists did not prevent us from performing our duty," recalling that more than 140 Palestinian journalists have been martyred for the sake of the truth since the beginning of the war on Gaza.
