Oxfam warns of the spread of epidemics in Gaza as a result of Israeli attacks
The international humanitarian aid organization Oxfam warned that the Israeli attacks that destroyed vital infrastructure and health in Gaza increase the risk of epidemics spreading.
The organization explained in a statement on Monday that the Israeli attacks since last October 7 caused damage of no less than $210 million to the water and sanitation infrastructure in the region.
It added that the destruction of water and sanitation infrastructure, overcrowding, malnutrition and heat have brought Gaza to the brink of deadly epidemics.
It noted that at least 5 of Oxfam's water projects in Gaza were severely damaged or destroyed in Israeli attacks.
It pointed out that the Israeli attacks on Rafah forced more than 350,000 people to flee to shelter centers and crowded camps, pointing out that the shortage of food and fuel in the region resulted from the closure of the border gates.
The Israeli war on Gaza left more than 113,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
Israel continues the war despite the issuance of a resolution by the UN Security Council to stop the fighting immediately, and also despite the International Court of Justice demanding immediate measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
