Discussions between Burns and Netanyahu regarding the possibility of stopping the military operation in Rafah

An Israeli official revealed, on Wednesday, that the discussions between CIA Director William Burns and the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, discussed the possibility of halting the military attack on Rafah in exchange for the release of detainees.

Officials in Tel Aviv warned their American counterparts that suspending an arms shipment could undermine detainee negotiations, according to the Axios website.

On the other hand, a Hamas source said, “The items around which the disagreements revolve have reduced significantly and are now limited to Netanyahu’s desire for a binding ceasefire to be in the second phase instead of the end of the first phase.”

The source indicated that Israeli side also insists that all detainees released in the first stage, whose number is estimated at 33, be from the living only, not the bodies, indicating that the release of the bodies will take place in the third stage.

The factions said in their statement that they would not accept any party imposing any guardianship over the Rafah crossing or any other crossing, considering this an occupation.

It indicated that any plan to impose guardianship over the Rafah crossing will have its consequences dealt with as it deals with the occupation.

It stressed that managing the internal situation is a purely Palestinian matter that is agreed upon nationally through established mechanisms.

This comes after the incursion of Israeli tanks, at dawn on Tuesday, into Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, which houses approximately 1.5 million displaced Palestinians.
