Türkiye completely stops its commercial dealings with Israel

Turkey suspended all exports and imports to and from Israel as of Thursday, according to Bloomberg, citing informed officials, and Ankara did not officially announce the move.

Last month, Turkey restricted the export of 54 goods to Israel, and stipulated the immediate cessation of its aggression against the Gaza Strip in order to lift the restrictions.

The export ban included aviation fuel, construction iron, flat steel, marble and ceramics, among others.

In the first Israeli reaction, its Foreign Minister Israel Katz said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is violating the agreements by closing the ports to Israeli imports and exports.

“This is how the dictator behaves, ignoring the interests of the Turkish people and Turkish businessmen and ignoring international trade agreements,” Katz said on the X platform.

Katz said that he issued instructions to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work on finding alternatives to trade with Turkey, focusing on local production and imports from other countries.

Israel ranked 13th for Türkiye's exports in 2023, and exports to it amounted to $5.42 billion.

Turkish exports to Israel declined over the past year to $5.42 billion, from $7 billion in 2022.

According to the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, Israel exported goods worth $1.5 billion to Turkey in 2023, down from $2.5 billion in 2022.
