The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that Beijing hosted talks between the Hamas and Fatah movements at its invitation, with the aim of "conducting a deep and frank dialogue to promote Palestinian reconciliation."
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters, “At the invitation of China, representatives of the Fatah movement and the Hamas movement recently visited Beijing to hold in-depth and frank discussions to advance Palestinian reconciliation.”
The Chinese Foreign Ministry reported that "the two sides expressed a political desire to achieve reconciliation through dialogue," and "they agreed to continue the dialogue to achieve Palestinian unity as soon as possible."
The Chinese Foreign Ministry also stated that Hamas and Fatah expressed their “deep appreciation for China’s support for the Palestinian people,” noting that “an agreement was reached on ideas for future dialogue.”
Informed sources reported that “the meeting of the Hamas and Fatah movements in Beijing reached several outcomes, the first of which was an emphasis on the necessity of Palestinian unity, and the necessity of unity and ending the Palestinian division within the framework of the Palestine Liberation Organization.”
The sources explained that "the outcomes of the Hamas-Fatah meeting are considered an agenda for the next meeting between the two sides on July 14, in Beijing."
The sources also stated that “it was emphasized that all Palestinian forces and factions should join the PLO and its institutions based on previous agreements” during the meeting in Beijing.
According to the sources, the Hamas-Fatah meeting stressed “the necessity of forming a temporary, non-factional, national consensus government during or after the war of extermination, whose tasks include carrying out its technical and administrative duties in relief, removing the effects of aggression, and reconstructing Gaza.”
The sources indicated that the two sides agreed that "one of the basic tasks of this government is to unify Palestinian institutions and prepare for general election procedures."
Representatives of the two movements stressed the need to "coordinate joint efforts to bring urgent aid and relief into the Gaza Strip," and agreed to "arrange with the relevant authorities in Gaza to form a joint bilateral committee in Cairo for coordination and follow-up."
According to reports, Hamas and Fatah agreed on “the necessity of reviving their joint committees, addressing any problems they face, and stopping media exchanges.”
