Newsweek: After 6 months of war, Hamas is in control of the situation in Gaza

The writer of an article in the American magazine "Newsweek" believes that, after 6 months of the Israeli war on Gaza, it has become increasingly clear that the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) is the one who controls the situation there and is the one who dictates the terms of the ceasefire.

The article written for me by Michael Katz added that while the world is focusing on the cycle of mutual Israeli-Iranian revenge, the war in Gaza continues, and Hamas has begun dictating its conditions from “under the rubble of the Strip.”

The writer, an independent journalist, analyst and award-winning author, said that Hamas has rejected a plan prepared by international negotiators and insists on returning only half of the proposed Israeli hostages, and other conditions that it knows are unpalatable to the Israeli government, which is under domestic and international pressure.

A challenge to all criteria of victory and defeat

Although the loser in a war is usually the one who surrenders to end the death and destruction that befalls his people, this is not the case with Hamas, and the reason behind this astonishing challenge to all standards of victory and defeat in wartime is simple, which is that Hamas has so far been victorious.

The writer pointed out that Hamas cannot defeat Israel on the battlefield above ground, but it found another way to achieve victory in a war that captured the world's attention, unlike other tragedies.

There is an effort in the United Nations to recognize Palestine as an independent state, although Washington overturned it with a veto, and there is increasing support in Congress among Democrats, to put conditions on military supplies to Israel, and the demonstrators are pursuing President Joe Biden as a “genocidal atmosphere,” and Democratic politicians feel Concerned about the 2024 protest vote.

The pro-Israel writer wonders why should Hamas give up negotiating in good faith under these circumstances? Alleging that its leaders are calling on the Palestinians to be martyred, including their children and grandchildren, in order to kill and expel the Jews from all of Israel.

The writer saw the "tragic deaths of aid workers in the World Central Kitchen" in an Israeli raid as a tragic example of the ugly Middle East equation in Gaza, where Hamas wins when deadly Israeli responses harm civilians.
