Olmert: The assassination of Haniyeh's sons will harm Israel's reputation
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert considered the assassination of the sons of the head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Ismail Haniyeh “a mistake that will harm Israel’s reputation,” while the Israeli newspaper “Haaretz” considered the Israeli army’s claims that Haniyeh’s sons were on their way to carry out an attack “something that even Hamas’s opponents cannot accept.” Because their children were with them."
Those close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh’s sons and grandchildren “was carried out without the prior knowledge of Netanyahu or his Defense Minister Yoav Galant due to the limited operational time that was available for its implementation, and that a military officer, in cooperation with the General Security Agency (Shin Bet), was in command of the area.” The South made the decision based on real-time information.”
Israel claimed that they were on their way to carry out what it described as “terrorist activity in the central Gaza Strip.” Note that they were accompanied by their children and were targeted by air strikes. The Israeli army tried to evade its crime by claiming that one of them was supervising the detention of “kidnapped Israelis,” as it claimed.
The Israeli army claimed responsibility for the assassination of 3 of Haniyeh’s sons, and the army said in a brief statement, “Air Force fighters carried out the operation under intelligence guidance from the Military Intelligence Authority and the Shin Bet General Security Service.”
Three of Haniyeh’s sons and a number of his grandchildren were killed, after Israel targeted a car they were transporting in the Beach Camp in the Gaza Strip yesterday.
The government media office in Gaza said that the bombing also injured a number of people who were at the bombing site. He explained that the occupation forces targeted Haniyeh's family while they were making social and family visits on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
The sons of Ismail Haniyeh who were killed in the Israeli raid were Hazem and Amir, in addition to Muhammad Ismail Haniyeh. A number of their sons were also martyred in the raid.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, the head of the Hamas political bureau said that the blood of his sons “is not more precious than the blood of the people of Palestine,” stressing that all the martyrs of Palestine and Gaza are his sons. Adding that the Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood was launched for the sake of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa.
The head of the Hamas political bureau stressed in his interview with Al Jazeera that the Israeli army is "delusional if it thinks that killing its sons will affect the movement's positions in the negotiations."
