Ben Gvir threatens Netanyahu to bring him down if he decides to end the war without an “attack on Rafah.”
On Monday morning, the Israeli Minister of National Security, the extremist Itamar Ben Gvir, threatened to topple the government if Netanyahu decided to end the war on the Gaza Strip without “a massive attack on the city of Rafah.”
Ben Gvir said, "If the Prime Minister (Netanyahu) decides to end the war without a large-scale attack on Rafah in order to defeat Hamas, he will not have a mandate to continue as prime minister."
In addition, the Minister of Finance and head of “Religious Zionism”, Bezalel Smotrich, invited members of the Knesset and ministers from his party to consultations described as “urgent” in the Knesset this morning.
Ben Gvir's statement and Smotrich's consultations come after the Israeli army's withdrawal from Khan Yunis, and in light of the talks held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to reach a ceasefire agreement and a prisoner exchange deal between Israel and the Hamas movement.
According to the "Ynet" website, the session of members of "Religious Zionism" comes to discuss their positions regarding the developments taking place, at a time witnessing sharp criticism within the government regarding the trends of the war.
According to sources in the government coalition, “There is a feeling that Netanyahu does not intend to fulfill his promises to destroy Hamas and achieve certain victory.”
Ynet quoted an unnamed official in the right-wing parties in the government who said this morning, “We hope that Netanyahu realizes that without Rafah he will not be prime minister.”
