Delegations arrive in Cairo to begin a new round of truce negotiations in Gaza
Several delegations are scheduled to arrive today, Sunday, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to begin a new round of ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip.
The head of the CIA, William Burns, will arrive in Cairo to meet with senior Egyptian officials, as well as Qatari officials who will arrive and participate in the tour, to discuss developments in the efforts made to achieve a ceasefire, even if it is temporary.
Before noon today, the Israeli War Council will hold a meeting to consider whether or not to send a delegation headed by Mossad chief Didi Barnea to Cairo to participate in the new round.
Last night, Tel Aviv witnessed a loud demonstration by the families of Israeli prisoners and their supporters, which included violent confrontations with the Israeli police, demanding the completion of an exchange deal, accusing their Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of obstructing this, and demanding early elections.
A delegation from the Hamas movement will also arrive to participate indirectly in the new round of negotiations, as intensive contacts have taken place between the mediators and the movement’s leadership in the last two days in order to try to make the new efforts successful.
