Qatar: Prisoner exchange negotiations are still stuck in the same differences that we faced in Paris
Qatar confirmed today, Wednesday, that negotiations aimed at concluding a prisoner exchange deal with the Hamas movement are still stuck in the same disagreements that faced the mediators in the French capital, Paris.
This came according to what the Qatari Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, said in a joint press conference with the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, this evening.
The Qatari Foreign Minister said: "We renewed our position calling for a just and comprehensive settlement based on the establishment of a Palestinian state with its capital." He stressed that "the war in Gaza has produced a humanitarian and tragic reality."
He called on "the international community to impose an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip."
He stated that "Qatar is continuing its mediation to achieve an immediate ceasefire and the release of detainees," stressing "the continuation of Qatari efforts to evacuate the wounded and injured from Gaza and provide humanitarian aid to the Strip."
The Qatari Foreign Minister said: “We discussed the Israeli raid on the employees of the World Central Kitchen in Gaza,” praising “the Spanish government’s position against the war on Gaza.”
He added: "We hope that the decisions of the International Court of Justice represent the beginning of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza." He continued: "We do not see any support from any country for an Israeli military operation in Rafah."
While the Qatari Foreign Minister said: “We are committed from the beginning to the negotiation process in order to release the hostages and end the war, and we are doing our best to reach an agreement,” he stressed that “the outcome is in the hands of the parties.”
He stressed that "the international community did not take appropriate action to stop the war in the Gaza Strip."
In turn, the Spanish Prime Minister said: “We seek as much as possible to communicate with all parties to resolve the dilemma in the Gaza Strip.”
He called for "stopping the violence, respecting international law, and facilitating the entry of aid into the Gaza Strip." He also called on "Israel not to launch any military operation in Rafah."
The Spanish Prime Minister said: “Our political vision is based on the two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state.... We affirm our support for Palestine’s accession to the United Nations as a sovereign state,” stressing that “any escalation in the region may have very serious repercussions.”
He added: "We committed to making strides in Qatari-Spanish relations, and today we signed a strategic dialogue agreement."
He continued: "We agree on the necessity of organizing an international conference to end the war."
The Spanish Prime Minister called on Israel to "clarify the circumstances of the killing of 7 World Central Kitchen staff."
He stressed that "what the Israeli government presented regarding the circumstances of the bombing of the convoy of aid workers in Gaza is not sufficient."
The Spanish Prime Minister said: "We called on the Israeli government to provide clarifications regarding the circumstances of the killing of foreign aid workers in Gaza."
