Tel Aviv and Washington discuss the military operation in Rafah

Israeli National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer will head to Washington next week to complete discussions on a possible military operation in Rafah.

According to the Hebrew website Ynet, this was agreed upon during a virtual meeting held on Monday evening, to discuss the expected plan, which revealed major differences in opinions between the two sides.

He stated that a team of experts will be formed to discuss the plans in depth.

During the meeting, the Americans raised criticism and difficult questions about the Israeli procedure and plans to evacuate the population, and presented their approach to the issue of dealing with the Hamas brigades in Rafah and the needs related to the evacuation of the million Gazans who have been stationed in the southern Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war.

The Americans are highly skeptical of Israeli estimates that evacuating residents of Rafah will take three weeks.

It was also learned that the Americans demanded in the conversation that Israel adopt a different plan of action in Rafah that includes 3 elements: encircling the city, reaching an agreement with the Egyptians, starting operations in the fence area when Israel withdraws, and carrying out targeted lightning operations inside the city and thus dismantling the Hamas brigades.
