UNRWA calls for lifting restrictions on aid access to northern Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) called on Thursday for lifting restrictions imposed on the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip to avoid the risk of famine as a result of Israeli attacks.

In a statement via X, UNRWA said, “its aid convoys were once again prevented from reaching northern Gaza.”

The statement added that preventing aid from reaching northern Gaza "accelerates the risk of famine."

The statement included a statement by Jonathan Whittall, Senior Humanitarian Affairs Officer at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Whittall said that the northern Gaza governorate has become a famine hotspot in the region.

He stressed the need for food supplies to enter the region urgently.
