Occupied Jerusalem: Israeli settlers destroy tombstones in the Bab al-Rahma cemetery near Al-Aqsa Mosque

Today, Saturday, settlers destroyed tombstones in the Bab al-Rahma cemetery, adjacent to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, after approximately 40 settlers stormed it.

Eyewitnesses reported that settlers destroyed the headstones of at least 10 graves, and vandalized some of the contents of the cemetery used to bury the dead, such as cement and dirt.

The witnesses added that the settlers are constantly storming the cemetery and performing Talmudic rituals there, with the aim of seizing it. It is also being subjected to excavations by the occupation in order to establish a base for the Judaizing cable car surrounding the Old City there.

The area of Bab al-Rahma cemetery is about 23 dunums, and it contains many graves of the Companions, most notably Ubadah ibn al-Samit, Shaddad ibn Aws, and graves of mujahideen who participated in the conquest of Jerusalem during the Umri and Ayyubid conquests. The occupation government also intends to convert part of it into a biblical garden as part of its project to Judaize the city.
