West Bank: Israel seizes 2,640 dunums of lands in Abu Dis and Al-Eizariya, east of Jerusalem

The Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission said that the Israeli authorities seized about 2,640 dunums of land from the towns of Abu Dis, Al-Eizariya, and Arab Al-Sawahra, east of occupied Jerusalem.

The head of the authority, Muayyad Shaaban, explained to the official Wafa news agency that the targeted lands are located between the “Kedar” and “Ma’ale Adumim” colonies, which are established on citizens’ lands east of Jerusalem.

He pointed out that the Israeli authorities aim through this seizure to create geographical continuity between the two aforementioned colonies, which will lead to the isolation of East Jerusalem from its Palestinian context.

He added that this step will also lead to linking the lands previously declared as “state lands” with the new declaration, in addition to isolating the Bedouin communities (Wadi Abu Hindi and the Al-Awaj cluster from Al-Eizariya and Abu Dis), and tightening the closure of the eastern slopes.

Last Friday, the Israeli government pushed a plan to build more than 3,000 new colonial units in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem.

The Israeli government intends to invite the so-called “Supreme Planning Council” to hold a session during the next two weeks, to approve the new colonial plan, which includes the construction of 2,350 colonial units in the “Maale Adumim” colony, and 300 units in the “Kedar” colony built on citizens’ lands southeast of Jerusalem, and 694 units in the “Efrat” colony, built on citizens’ lands south of occupied Jerusalem.

A report issued by the Israeli "Peace Now" human rights movement, last month, showed an escalation in colonial activity in the occupied West Bank since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7th.

The report indicated the establishment of 9 new colonial outposts within about three months, in addition to 18 colonial roads, the colonists closing the roads, preventing the passage of Palestinians, and building fences, explaining that a large part of the outposts and roads were established on private Palestinian land.
