US delegation at Rafah crossing: “The situation in Gaza is tragic” and warns of famine
Senator Jeffrey Merkley, a member of the US Democratic Party, said in a press conference in front of the Rafah land crossing today, Friday, that the situation in Gaza is “tragic, and that hundreds of thousands of wounded and injured need large amounts of water, food, electricity, and medical care... and this situation needs great attention so that famine does not occur.”
US Senator Christopher Fan, a member of the Democratic Party, said at the conference, “We intend to return to the United States to talk to our colleagues in the Senate that we need to make more efforts to ensure the arrival of more humanitarian aid.”
He added, "We are working with Ambassador David Satterfield, the US special envoy for humanitarian issues in the Middle East, to ensure that some of these issues are addressed and that obstacles are overcome."
The American delegation visited the Rafah land crossing and inspected the aid for the Gaza Strip in the warehouses of the city of Al-Arish, accompanied by Egyptian officials.
