The World Health Organization warns of the catastrophic impact of the war in Gaza
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned of the “catastrophic” impact on health of the war, which has entered its third month in the Gaza Strip.
At the opening of an extraordinary session of the organization’s Executive Council dedicated to examining the consequences of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, he said on Sunday that “the impact of the conflict on health is catastrophic,” stressing that health personnel perform impossible tasks in difficult circumstances.
He confirmed that more than 449 health care centers in Gaza and the West Bank were exposed to Israeli attacks, noting that the health system in Gaza is on the verge of collapse, noting that only 14 out of 36 hospitals are partially functioning.
Ghebreyesus stressed that a ceasefire represents the only solution to protect the health of Gaza residents.
