Netanyahu is retried on corruption charges despite the war on Gaza
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing to resume his trial sessions on corruption charges, Monday, December 4, 2023, after a hiatus that lasted more than two months, since the start of the war on the Gaza Strip, according to what the “Israel Hayom” newspaper published on Sunday.
The trial was scheduled to continue, but was halted after October 7, when Israeli courts were operating on an emergency basis following the Al-Aqsa Flood attack.
As the courts return to normal activity in December, Netanyahu's trial continues despite the war.
The court session will begin on Monday with the testimony of investigator Eran Bushnik, who investigated the Netanyahu corruption case. After Bushnik, the court will hear the testimony of investigator Dotan Malichi and Israeli Securities Authority investigator Lior Shpetz.
Prime Minister Netanyahu is on trial on criminal charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.
It is worth noting that on December 1, 2023, a humanitarian truce between the Palestinian resistance factions and Israel ended. It was concluded with Qatari-Egyptian mediation and lasted for 7 days, during which prisoners were exchanged and limited humanitarian aid was brought into the sector, which is inhabited by about 2.3 million Palestinians.
It is noteworthy that the Israeli occupation army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, which left massive infrastructure destruction and an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe,” according to official Palestinian and UN sources.
