UN Forces in Lebanon: Our patrol was exposed to Israeli fire and no casualties were reported

The United Nations Interim Force in South Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced today, Saturday, that its patrol came under fire from the Israeli army in the vicinity of the town of Aitaroun in southern Lebanon, without causing any casualties.

UNIFIL explained, via the “X” platform, that none of its soldiers were injured in the incident, but their car was damaged, noting that this incident occurred at a relatively calm time along the Blue Line.

UNIFIL condemned the attack, and said, “This attack on peacekeeping forces, which are working hard to reduce tensions and restore stability in southern Lebanon, is deeply disturbing.”

It added: “We remind all parties of their obligations to protect peacekeepers and avoid endangering the men and women working to restore stability.”

This comes amid relative calm in the border area between southern Lebanon and Israel for the second day in a row, coinciding with a temporary truce in Gaza between the Hamas movement, other Palestinian factions, and Israel.

The Lebanese-Israeli border has witnessed escalating clashes since October 8 between the Lebanese Hezbollah and Palestinian factions, against the Israeli forces, coinciding with the Israeli attack against the Gaza Strip.
