“Loser and weak”... a scathing letter from the sacked British Home Secretary to Sunak
The dismissed British Home Secretary, Soella Braverman, launched a violent attack on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday, accusing him of "betraying the people."
This came after Braverman remained silent last Monday following her dismissal, but she returned and wrote a letter to Sunak yesterday, Tuesday, through her account on the “X” platform, directing him with severe criticism and claiming that she had been “successful” throughout her tenure as Ministry of the Interior.
Criticism of immigration policy
Braverman accused the Prime Minister of "clearly and repeatedly failing to deliver on all his core policies" on reducing irregular migration, and of betraying a promise to do "whatever it takes" to stop illegal immigration boats, on the eve of a Supreme Court ruling on whether the government can go ahead with its plan. To deport asylum seekers to Rwanda.
The former minister, known for her hostility to immigrants, said that Sunak also did not fulfill a series of promises he made to her to work under him as Prime Minister.
Conservative defeats
Braverman also added in her letter: “One must be honest. Your program is ineffective. We have suffered unprecedented electoral losses, and your plans for reform have failed. Time is running out. You urgently need to change course,” referring to the Conservatives’ defeats in local votes under his leadership. .
The position of the dismissed minister may represent the beginning of a campaign to oust Rishi Sunak if the Conservative Party loses, as opinion polls predict, in the elections scheduled for next year.
Braverman is the Conservative MP for Fareham County, and took office from September 2022.
Demonstrations in support of Palestine
Braverman also criticized Sunak's handling of the protests in support of Palestine, saying that she had taken pains to present arguments for banning them, while his response was characterized by "ambiguity, weakness, and lack of leadership qualities that the United Kingdom needs," for his failure to prevent last week's march in support of Palestine in the capital, London.
Braverman previously described the solidarity marches with Palestine, which have been held every week in London since last October 14, as “hate marches,” she said.
The sacked minister also accused the London police, which allow marches in support of Palestine, of "being biased and applying double standards" when it comes to demonstrations in support of Palestine.
Sunak fired Braverman on Monday, after she published an unauthorized newspaper article accusing the police of double standards in pro-Palestinian protests.
Sunak responded
In turn, a spokesman for Sunak's office responded to Braverman's statements by saying: "The Prime Minister believes in actions, not words."
Yesterday, Tuesday, the British Prime Minister appointed Foreign Secretary James Cleverly as Home Secretary, succeeding sacked Minister Suella Braverman.
