Bishop Naoum urges leaders of the Anglican churches to work for a “ceasefire” in Gaza
The Anglican Archbishop of Jerusalem, Bishop Hossam Naoum, urged the leaders of the Evangelical Episcopal churches in the world to work for a “ceasefire and achieve peace,” in light of the continued Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since the seventh of last October.
During his participation in the work of the General Synod of the Evangelical Episcopal Church, along with many bishops and priests from around the world, Bishop Naoum stressed “the importance of continuing to work to achieve peace, a ceasefire, providing protection for civilians, and stopping all forms of violence that have claimed the lives of children and women.” And the elderly.”
The leaders of the Evangelical Episcopal Churches called on the participants in the Synod to “pray for the achievement of permanent and comprehensive peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis, and to make all efforts to achieve security and stability” in the Holy Land, stressing the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.
In turn, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, in his speech, called for a ceasefire and to open the way for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza, pointing out the catastrophic and unfortunate conditions that the besieged Gaza Strip is witnessing.
He said, “The continued bombing of hospitals and civilians in Gaza cannot be tolerated, violates international humanitarian law, and must stop immediately,” noting that “the situation facing staff and patients in Gaza’s hospitals is catastrophic, and everything must be done to restore the health care system in Gaza and protect those who suffer from it.” "They need it desperately."
He added: "I pray for the brave staff and patients at Al-Ahly Arab (Baptist) Hospital, which is run by the Anglican Church in Gaza."
It is noteworthy that the Israeli occupation forces committed a massacre in the Baptist Hospital on October 17, which resulted in the martyrdom and wounding of hundreds of our people, after they bombed the hospital while thousands of displaced people were present who took refuge there after their homes were destroyed and were searching for a safe place.
