Israel criticizes Germany for its intention to arrest Netanyahu
Israel criticized the German government, due to its position on a possible decision of the International Criminal Court, to issue an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Times of Israel newspaper quoted statements by Israeli government spokesman Avi Heyman, in which he said: “I remember that the German leader came here days after October 7th, and said that Hamas is the new Nazis, and they seek to carry out genocide against the Jews.”
He continued: "Many in the world need to check their moral compass and choose the right side of history."
The Israeli ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, also attacked the German statement, considering it "disgraceful behavior. Publicly stating that Israel has the right to defend itself loses its credibility if our hands are tied as soon as we begin to defend ourselves."
On Monday, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, announced that he is seeking arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant, on charges of committing crimes including “starvation,” “premeditated murder,” and “extermination and/or murder.”
He also requested the issuance of arrest warrants against 3 senior Hamas leaders: Yahya Al-Sinwar, head of the movement’s political bureau in Gaza, Muhammad Diab Ibrahim “Deif”, commander of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the movement’s military wing, and Ismail Haniyeh, head of the movement’s political bureau, on charges of “genocide” and “Rape,” “sexual violence,” and “hostage-taking.”
