United Nations: Satellite images show the destruction of 30% of the Gaza Strip

Satellite images and analysis by a United Nations center showed that 30 percent of the buildings in the Gaza Strip were completely or partially destroyed during the Israeli war on the densely populated Palestinian Strip.

The United Nations Satellite Center (UNOSAT) said, “A total of 69,147 buildings were damaged, equivalent to about 30 percent of the total buildings in the Gaza Strip.”

The center added that 22,131 buildings in the Palestinian sector were destroyed, in addition to 14,066 other buildings that were severely damaged and 32,950 were moderately damaged.

The center used satellite images taken from January 6 to 7, and compared them with six other sets of images, some dating back to before the Israeli attack.

The center stated that the largest extent of damage was in the cities of Gaza and Khan Yunis, compared to a previous analysis.

10,280 buildings were damaged in Gaza and 11,894 in Khan Yunis, compared to the previous analysis conducted by the center based on photos taken on November 26.

The analysis also showed that about 93,800 housing units in the Gaza Strip were damaged.
